An extensive 60-day cruise around the Land Down Under has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an older woman who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the excursion for a break. The vessel left without her and went back later that day after the crew became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her remains the next day.

Authorities are looking into the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the shipping company announced that travelers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".

Officials also published an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from entering the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

The ship initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Response

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my parent".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mum as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a hiking group.
